The complaint was filed against the chairperson of the MMC Arthur D’Silva and chief officer Yeshwant Tawde questioning how all the tenders were under the Rs 5 lakh bar, thus effectively bypassing the e-tender process.
Nelson Fernandes, Ethel Lobo, Croydon Madeira, Laurel Abranches, Rohan Bhandare, Seby Noronha, Sayed Iftiyaz, Jose Almeida, Melwyn Fernandes, Franky Castro, Raymond Fonseca were among the signatories to the complaint.
“We smell corruption in the Margao Municipal hurried short tendering process executed by the chief officer and chairperson along with selected contractors,” said Laurel Abranches.
Advocate Rajeev Gomes added that the role of the contractors associated with the tendering process may also be probed to reveal the criminal nexus between the MMC and the contractors. The list of all the tenders has been submitted and the authorities concerned have been asked to issue orders to stall the tendering process, failing which it would result in a huge losses to the exchequer.
In another unrelated development, sources stated the MMC and the contractor for the tarpaulin cover have come to an agreement for Rs 7 lakh and the contractor has begun the process of procuring the nylon and necessary material for the tarpaulin cover. This comes against the backdrop of an inspector report by the Margao health department that confirmed the flow of leachete into the drains from the dump site and the foul odour and the report is expected to be submitted to the government.
