VALPOI: In a tragic incident, 16-year-old Rohit Bhago Varak, a Class X student and resident of Pali-Sattari on Thursday allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence after his father failed to give him a smartphone for online studies.
According to available information, Rohit had been demanding a mobile phone for the past several days for his online studies. His father had promised to give him a smartphone soon.

On Wednesday night, Rohit had an argument with his father in this regard and his dad had assured to give him a smartphone in next two days.
On Thursday, when his father had left for work, Rohit allegedly hanged himself with a rope at his residence at around 7 am.
Rohit was a student of Government High School, Dongurlim-Thane.
Rohit’s father drives a private bus and due to the COVID pandemic he is forced to work on alternate days.
Valpoi Police sent Rohit’s body to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim for post-mortem, which revealed the cause of death as asphyxia due to hanging.
