Local women complained that water supply was restricted for three days without prior announcement. “On Thursday night, we received little water but in the morning the taps were running dry; we could not even store water as the pressure was very low,” said a woman.
Technical Operator at Salaulim dam Kalpati Tari informed that water supply was cut due to increase in manganese content in the water (from 0.1 cpm to 2.4 cpm), the filters got chocked-up and also due to interruption in power supply water level decreased.
When contacted, Executive Engineer Anant Gaonkar and Junior Engineer Sanjay Borkar of Salaulim dam admitted that manganese content has increased in the water and as a result the filters got chocked-up. “The situation will improve within next two days, after commencing the new treatment plant at Salaulim dam,” Gaonkar said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Engineer from Bansai office Shailesh Usgaonkar informed that water has been supplied by tankers for those could not get water on Thursday night due to low pressure in the water. “The situation will improve by Friday night,” said Usgaonkar and advised the public to build the main tank on the ground level to store water in order to avoid similar situation in future.
