PANJIM: For Shravan and Sanjay Kumaran all of 14 and 12 the moniker of being the country’s youngest app developers sits very lightly. Having developed 10 apps all of which have been downloaded in over sixty countries and been given a four or a five star rating hope to make a billion dollars in the tech industry in the years to come.
The interest in technology was created by presence of their father’s laptop. A software engineer, the young boys would switch on the laptop after the father had completed his days work. They would delete files not knowing the consequences of their actions. Their father noticed their interest and introduced them to basic language and their learnt Q-basic. Shravan the elder of the two said” We were very young when all this started but my dad saw the interest and introduced us to the world of IT”. Asked what it was about apps that attracted them Sanjay said that the platform had a lot of potential and it would only grow further and it made sense to be part of it. Their growing interest and understanding of increasingly complex systems resulted in purchase of laptops. The boys decided to increasingly operate on the IOS platform of the I- phone. Asked how long it took them to create their first app Catch Me Cop, Shravan said it would take them a minimum of two months. The development of an app begins with figuring out the requirement or utility to the consumer, to designing it, before moving on to the actual coding. This followed by testing and finally submitting it to the app stores for approval. Their first app was accepted by the app store within a week and without any marketing was downloaded over 1000 times on the very first day.
Some of their others apps like Alphabet Board and Car Racing HD were also quite popular with the latter being downloaded over 2000 times on the first day.
Asked what their plans were, they said they intended to stay in the technology business. Right now they were focussed on completing their education with the younger Sanjay insisting that even if they went abroad to study they would return to India to create their business. They said they wanted to go to the best universities so that it would help them in later life. With regards to the kind of products they were keen on developing, Sharavan said that lifestyle apps was something they would be interested in though it was not something they would only want to do. He said “Who knows that the future will look like. Technology is changing so fast one has to only look at the rapidly evolving features in mobile phones to understand it.”
The elder brother with designations of Co-Founder and President with the younger one the CEO and co-founder  hope to create a distinctive mark for themselves in the years to come in an India that will hopefully would have created a bigger space for itself with more offerings from its it industry.
