The trucks carrying different types of materials such as laterite stones, rubble, metal, sand etc are supposed to be covered with a tarpaulin. However, this requirement is often flouted and the situation turns dangerous for the lives of commuters and pedestrians proceeding along the concerned routes.
In case any material from the said vehicles happens to fall on them, it would certainly result in adverse consequences. Recently, a truck carrying construction debris passed through the old bus stand in Ponda. In the process, a big stone fell on the road. Fortunately, there were neither any pedestrians nor any vehicle proceeding close to this particular truck.
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the police department should take a note of the above important matter and initiate stringent action against the vehicles failing to cover the materials being transported on regular basis.
Indeed, precious human lives must be assured safety at all costs. Let us hope that the authorities would consider this matter with utmost seriousness and deal with defaulters with an iron hand.
