PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) councillor Uday Madkaikar on Wednesday demanded an inquiry against consultants engaged in the ongoing Smart City works.
Speaking to reporters, Madkaikar said, “We have our engineers, PWD has its own engineers and I have demanded that a team be constituted and an audit of the quality of the work be conducted.”
“The consultant has become king by taking Rs eight crore for one project. There are so many projects, so I do not know how much money has been claimed by the consultants. We have no idea as to where they have gone. An inquiry must be conducted and the consultants should be arrested,” he said.
The former CCP Mayor demanded that the quality of the work be checked before the project bills are approved.
Madkaikar pointed out that it was the lack of safety measures due to which the son of our former colleague lost his life.
“It was the responsibility of the contractor and the consultant to put safety measures in place. It is mentioned in the contract and separate money is allotted for the purpose,” he pointed out.
Works will be completed by May 31: Mayor
PANJIM: CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate said that the Smart City work will be completed by May 31 this year.
“We had a meeting with the chief minister. The chief minister had also called officers from the concerned department as well. He declared that May 31 is the deadline for the completion of all the work and it should be completed by that time,” Rohit said
To a question, the Mayor said “the CCP is writing to the Smart City officials whenever any substandard work is found. The consultants are taking money so they should see that the work is done properly. There are engineers from other departments as well. Now the Chief Minister has said that he is handling everything so hopefully it should improve,” Rohit said.
The Mayor said that the issue of auditing the quality of work will be taken up with the Chief Minister.
