MARGAO: The ejection of Goa Forward Party (GFP) from the government will likely have a cascading effect: the party functionaries will most probably be shunted out.
GFP may lose its prominent positions in South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA), Margao Ravindra Bhavan and some other prominent positions.
The Margao Municipal Council, too, may see changes in the near future.
On joining the government, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai got Prashant Naik, GFP executive member, appointed as the chairman of Ravindra Bhavan; changed the entire committee and reshuffled even the staff.
He also appointed Renuka Da Silva as the chairperson of SGPDA; some of his party functionaries were also appointed as members of the PDA. It would be interesting to see what happens to these men and women appointed by Vijai.
As far as the Margao municipality is concerned, some of the BJP councillors said, “The changes may not make any difference to the MMC composition. Though, the BJP is ruling in the State, we don’t have the numbers in the Council.”
The Council will go for election in 2020 before the next Assembly elections. However, all the attention will be focussed on who gets the posts now after the ejection of Vijai from the government.
