BSNL plans special internet package for students

Here’s some good news for internet-savvy student community. The BSNL has planned a special package for students in its Western Circle that comprises Goa and Maharashtra.
Aloke Kaul, Chief General Manager, BSNL, Western Circle, while addressing a press conference on Thursday here, said a special package will be launched and education department as well education institutes in the State have been contacted for the purpose.
He said, Goa government has a scheme that offers computers to students and for BSNL, it is their potential customers.
“The BSNL is in touch with education department and various educational institutes and their package is in final stages,” he said.
Fifteen new exchanges have been planned in the State which will be set-up in the new financial year.
Kaul also briefed media about the progress BSNL had made and what it has on offer for its customers.
The BSNL’s broadband service is doing very well in Goa, Kaul said further adding that over 12000 broadband connections were provided during the year whereas 15000 has been planned. The revenue from Goa was Rs 140 crore and total revenue for whole Western region was Rs 3000 crore which is highest in the country.
3G Services: The 3G services which are being under testing in the State will be launched soon here, announced Kaul. Areas covered under 3G are Ponda, Mapusa, Panjim, Vasco, Margao and all important highways.
A total of 133 BTS of 3G are planned out of which 50 are already installed and work is in progress for 24 more sites.
The 3G services will include video calls, video conferencing, high speed internet at data speeds upto 3.1 Mbps, audio / video on demand and host of new applications.
New Remote Stations Units (RSU): A sixteen RSU have been planned in the State as also new calls centers.
Customer Service Centers (CSC): A twelve CSC will be improved to make them more consumer-friendly.
100 road shows were conducted in the last three months for business promotion, informed Kaul.
CDR Based Billing package: A new CDR based billing package is likely to be implemented in Goa from July, informed Kaul.
