VALPOI: In Sattari Taluka, for the 94 wards in 12 panchayats a total of 401 nominations were filed. After scrutiny 377 nominations forms were accepted.
In Sattari a total of four nominations are unopposed. They are from Bhironda Panchayat ward number four and six, Khotodem Panchayat ward number four and Dongurli Thane Panchayat ward number one is unopposed.
In ward number three from Morle Panchayat nobody filed nomination. This ward is reserved for OBC woman and according to the villagers, in ward three there is no one from OBC present.
Rajaram Narayan Gaonkar a resident said there was no OBC voter in ward three. He said, “There are five families of OBC category in our ward but they are not registered as OBC, they don’t have OBC certificate. There are total fifty houses in this ward and total voters are 420”.
Another villager Nakul Tukaram Rane felt the government had done injustice. He said “They have made our ward directly OBC reserved for woman. In our ward there is no OBC. We held a meeting in our village and decided that no one would file a nomination and we would not allow an outsider to file a nomination from our ward”.
Shantaram Bhikagi Gaonkar another villager said” Now the government will have to think and change it from OBC ward to general ward for woman. And for this we have already given an application to the Director of Panchayat. If the government is not fulfilling our demand, then we will not allow Panchayat to elect Sarpanch”.
