VASCO: Since Aadhaar has become a vital document for a lot of services, including for filing income tax returns, the centre in Vasco that provides enrolment and correction facilities is unable to handle the pressure of increased footfalls.
On the other hand, availing Aadhaar services in Vasco have now become a painful task for applicants.
According to the information, though the port city has a population of over one lakh residents, there are only four Aadhaar centre to cater to the needs of the population, which is why long queues at every centres have become a common sight.
“Currently Aadhaar related services are provided at only four places including Bank of India, State Bank, HDFC Bank and Ozler Forum in Vasco and all these centres cannot handle the pressure with many applicants having to return disappointed.  The government should set up more enrolment centres in Vasco,” said Francis Nunes, a resident of Chicalim.
Several others also had similar grievance.
“If Aadhaar is mandatory for so many things, we just need more counters, more centres, more infrastructures. Why don’t they hire and train more people. Spending two to four hours to get your Aadhaar updated or to enrol, is just insane,” Vinayak Kumbhar, a resident of Dabolim said.
