PANJIM: Heavy rainfall on Friday evening saw the water level at Camrabhat area of Panjim rise and reach the doorsteps of people’s houses.
A local resident said, “I hope that the water level doesn’t rise more. Even if it increases an inch, water will enter my house.”
Another resident said, “Now it’s all up to God to save us from damage like last year.” Last monsoon the same area had been completely flooded and water had entered houses damaging items.
Besides flooding in many areas across Goa, a landslide destroyed the house of a family in Dongrim, Agasaim, leaving them homeless. The family was forced to spend the night at a neighbour’s house.
The rains led to a tense atmosphere at the control room of Fire and Emergency Services that received over 100 calls. Teams of fire officers were on their toes attending to calls and fire engines were seen rushing to clear uprooted trees. One uprooted tree was just opposite Caculo Mall.
In Panjim, a government vehicle went off the road as heavy rainfall resulted in low visibility. However, no one was injured in the accident. Many more accidents were recorded across the state, slowing down traffic.
