BELGAUM: In what could be a relief to thousands of commuters from Belgaum and Goa who have been looking forward for a national class highway connecting both the places, the Union Ministry for Surface Transport is expected to take up the widening of NH4A soon.
If everything goes according to the plan, the NH4A, connecting Belgaum and Goa is expected to be upgraded soon, as the ministry has sought details of all the earlier plans regarding widening and re-alignment of NH4A. Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari has sought the details.
According to the information released by former Khanapur MLA Pralhad Remani, who recently visited Delhi, he submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Gadkari demanding immediate implementation of the widening of the NH4A.
Remani in his memorandum has demanded for immediate implementation of the long-pending doubling and four laning of the NH4A.
Remani has requested to consider the 1987-88 survey in which the NH4 could be realigned via Khanapur, Mansapur, Asoga, Manturga, Shiroli, Hemadagga connecting Anmod directly by passing Londa and Ramnagar. Apart from saving a distance of about 25 kms, this route will also give a reprieve to farmers, whose agricultural lands could be saved, according to Remani.
Apart from ensuring smooth, safe and quick traffic, once implemented, the connectivity between Belgaum and Goa is expected to be enhanced while the number of rising accidents along the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla is expected to come down.
Union Minister Gadkari has sought details from NHAI in this regard, so that the work could be taken up at the earliest, Remani informed.
