MAYEM: With incessant rains lashing the State for the three days, normal life was affected in entire Bicholim taluka.
People, especially school children, were inconvenienced due to the heavy downpour. There was a rise in the water level of the Bicholim and Valwanti rivers at Sanquelim. Some low-lying areas at Gaonkarwada, Bandarwada, Bordem, Mandrekarwada in Bicholim and areas of Gauthan, Chariwada Karapur in Sanquelim and some low-lying areas in Mayem were flooded due to heavy rains.
Engineer Dnyaneshwar Salelkar informed that the water level of the Anjunem dam has risen to 75.26 metres, while assistant engineer P V Sreekumar said the water level of the Amathane dam had risen to 43.46 metres.
Sreekumar further informed that height of water in Bicholim river rose up to 3.6 metres, while the height of the Valwanti River went up by 2.8 metres.
Incidents of falling of trees were also reported in different places in remote areas of Bicholim taluka. A huge forest tree uprooted on the road at Sarmanas-Bicholim and the debris was later cleared by firemen from Bicholim fire station.
A two-wheeler belonging to a police hawaldar from the Sanquelim Police outpost was crushed under a retaining wall near Muzawarwada-Sanquelim on Tuesday morning. A house was also damaged in another incident.
