VASCO, JUNE 17
Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda edged out Clube Sao Minguel de Taleigao 2-1 in an exciting quarter-final match to enter the semi-finals of 37th Bandodkar Memorial Soccer Tournament organized by Baina Sports Club at MPT ground, here on Thursday.
There was no score at the lemon break with a fine brace by enthusiastic Wilson Dias coming in the 42nd and 45th minutes.
Valente Silva, who operated from the right flank was instrumental in feeding Wilson on both occasions.
Substitute Gautam Kankonkar reduced the margin for Taleigao in the 52nd minute due to a defensive lapse past bewildered Don Bosco keeper Agnelo Furtado after Thomson Fernandes had done the spadework for Taleigao.
Don Bosco dominated the first half and missed the target on a couple of occasion as their forwards forced three corner kicks in quick succession. It was Taleigao keeper Jose Godinho who thwarted Don Bosco Oratary’s Valente Silva, Benny Dias and Wilson Dias attempts.
After the change of ends Valente Silva, Benny Dias, Cliff Barreto and Wilson Dias moved in tandem in the Taleigao area and Oratory went into the lead through Wilson off a pass from Valente.
Three minutes later, again after accepting a long pass from Valente, Wilson completed the brace, as the ball was deflected by Jose Godinho.
Taleigao lads fought back and were rewarded after Thomson Fernandes sent a pass to substitute Gautam Kankonkar who took advantage of a defensive lapse and shot home to reduce the margin.
Valente Silva of Don Bosco Oratory was given the man-of-the match award at the hands of Navnath P. Naik, secretary, Baina Sports Club.
There will be no match on Friday. On Saturday, Saligao Sporting Club will clash with Nagoa Sporting Club in the third quarter final.
