PANJIM: Ameya Audi, student of Vidya Vikas Academy and brand ambassador of Geno Pharmaceuticals, secured the first place in the All-Goa U-17 state selection chess tournament organised by Canacona Taluka Chess Association under the aegis of Goa Chess Association, at Canacona municipal hall, Chaudi-Canacona, recently.
Top rated Ameya scored 51/2 points out of six games. In the last round, Ameya outsmarted Madhavan G, who won fourth place in the tournament by scoring 41/2 points.
Aston Dias secured second place with five points. In the last round, he defeated Vraj Porob.
Third place was won by Colaco Reuben and fifth by Ian Savio Rodrigues. The tournament was held in Swiss League System in which all the players played six games.
The top two players in boys and girls section are selected to participate in the All-India U-17 chess tournament which will be held in West Bengal in September.
The chief guest for the prize distribution function was Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Prarthana Gaonkar while Kishor Bandekar, secretary, Goa Chess Association and joint secretary, All India Chess Federation presided.
