PANJIM: The All Goa Truck Driver’s Union has now demanded a Rs 7 lakh package for each truck driver who has been affected due to the mining ban in the State.
Addressing the media union leader Ajitsingh Rane said that around 440 truck drivers were affected due to the mining ban and the union has been demanding a relief fund from the government but the demands have not been met.
Rane questioned the government stating, “Why have only the truck and the barge owners been given compensation and not the truck drivers? Our demand is that Rs 7 lakh relief fund be given to each truck driver affected due to the mining ban.”
He said the government has failed to recover Rs 35,000 crore due to illegal mining and questioned the government on the Rs 102 cr relief fund sanctioned by former chief minister Manohar Parrikar for mining affected people.
Rane had earlier submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar demanding Rs 5 lakh compensation to each truck driver affected by the mining ban in the State.
