PONDA: Tragedy was averted as a couple in Ponda had a miraculous escape when an almond tree crashed onto their parked car just moments after they had exited the vehicle.
The incident, which occurred at Tisk Ponda, left residents in shock, prompting demands for the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to identify and prioritize the removal of hazardous trees in the area.
The car, belonging to Mayur Marcaikar, was severely damaged by the fallen tree as he and his wife had stepped out to make photocopies at the Ponda Commerce Centre building. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the Ponda Fire Personnel promptly responded to clear the tree.
The incident drew attention from onlookers and caused minor damage to another parked car, leading to a temporary slowdown in traffic along the Ponda-Margao route.
Concerned residents, like Vishal Fadte, emphasized the importance of public safety and urged the government to take proactive measures in identifying and removing dangerous trees to prevent similar incidents in the future.
