MARGAO: Industries Minister Mahadev Naik on Friday said the new Industrial and Investment policy would lay thrust on employment generation by the new industries to tide over the unemployment situation facing the state.
During an informal chat with newsmen, Naik said the government has already constituted a Task Force, which is expected to submit its report within the next 2-3 months which will prepare the road map for the new investment and industrial policy. “The Task Force is meeting every week at the IDC office, deliberating on the new policies. Besides, we have sought the views and information from MLAs, experts and Industrialists on the new policy. We have asked them to submit their proposals before the finalisation of new policy”, he said, adding that his office has so far not received any draft policy.
The Industries Minister, however, said that the government is of the firm stand that Goa should attract new industries, which are job oriented and would meet the requirements of the unemployed youth. “The Task Force is preparing the ground to formulate the new policy based on this aspect”, he added.
Replying to a question on sick industries, Naik said there may be sick industries in the state, but there’s no concrete information and statistics on the number of sick units in the state. “There may be industries which have taken loans and fallen sick since they are no more in operation. Only when they are declared sick, the government will be able to act”, he added.
On plots lying idle and vacant at many places, the Industries Minister said that many cases of plots remaining unutilised have come to light and the government has served them notices. “We are waiting for the replies to initiate further action”, he added.
