PANJIM: Commenting on the Chief Minister’s acceptance that a file movement has taken place within the government to permit the cultivation of cannabis in Goa, the Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai said that “by moving a file, the Chief Minister has the intention to pave a way for a decision on marijuana cultivation and to make Goa a vices hub”.

Sardesai stated that the party’s call to Save Goa Now is a call to action to form an alert United Opposition to defeat the BJP and eliminate the vices it is introducing in the State.
In the video address, Sardesai highlighted that if the government considers to permit the cultivation of cannabis in Goa, there will be a law and order crisis in the State and questioned “How will the government ensure its use and distribution, what kind of tourists are they looking to attract?”
Further, Sardesai demanded questions in regards to the implementation of cannabis cultivation asking “who will be the licenced watchdog to ensure there is no loophole and leak in the distribution cycle!”
The GFP Chief highlighted the concern that mismanagement on the distribution of cannabis could lead to easy access for the drug to reach the wrong hands, especially Goa’s youth.”
Sardesai stated that the “Goans have gone through so much of suffering this year from COVID-19 pandemic to Mollem, to exams, to jobs, to tourism and now cannabis this year in 2020”.
Vijai also pointed out that “Sawant’s idea of ‘Swayampurna Goa’ are castles in the sky, and are an illusion to hide a fantasy of Vice. Sardesai also called the Chief Minister “a yes-master to the wills and fancies of Delhi”.
Sardesai hit out on the recent Rs 5 crore the government paid for a Tourism Policy drafted by KPMG and questioned if cannabis cultivation was part of their recommendation, and if this is the government’s direction to welcome high quality tourists or drug addicts into the State?
Sardesai pointed out that to make Goa self-sufficient there are numerous avenues, and pointed out that if the government is normalising casinos, and cannabis now, it could also legalise prostitution tomorrow.
The GFP Chief repeated his called for United Team Goa to defeat the BJP as the only possible way forward to save Goa from turning into a Vices Hub from its previous Golden Goa identity.
Sardesai also revealed in an additional expose that the Pramod Sawant government has shut Matka operations in North Goa as sources suggest that there is a move to get a new Mumbai based Matka to operate in the State with the blessings of the ruling politicians. Sardesai said that “Swayampurna Matka is the part of Pramod Sawant’s Swayampurna Goa Plan”.
Further, Sardesai said that “Sawant and his government are in the illusion that they will never lose their power but the people can take it away from them at any time. That is what democracy is, in case they forgot what it means and that is people’s power is what Team Goa represents.”
