PANJIM: Aulon Gomes scored a brace as Navelim Sporting defeated Don Bosco Oratary, Fatorda 2-0 to move in to the semi-final of the 24th Cortalim Villagers Cup football tournament, organised by Cortalim Villagers and Social Welfare Association, at Cortalim church ground, on Thursday.
Navelim almost took the lead in the 20th minute when Aulom Gomes dribbled past couple of rival defenders in the box but his effort was saved by the rival keeper.
In the 25th minute, Don Bosco’s Charlton Pereira’s volley was brilliantly saved by Navelim keeper.
There were no scores in the first half.
Crossing over, Navelim Sporting re-grouped with renewed ides.
They netted the first goal in the 47th minute when Aulon Gomes headed Cilton’s short in to the back of the nets to make it 1-0..
Don Bosco Fatorda tried their level best to equalise but could not succeed as their opponents Navelim defended resolutely to contain their slender lead.
At the other end, as Don Bosco keeper came of his charge to pressurise the opponents, Aulon scored the second team’s second in the dying minutes of the match.
Navalim Sporting will meet Parish Youth Nuvem on November 5 in the semi-final.
