MARGAO: The South Goa Advocates’ Association has requested the High Court, Chief Justice and the Senior Administrative Judge of the High Court of Bombay at Goa to reconsider cancellation of the court’s summer vacation.
On April 21, 2020, the High Court had cancelled the vacation of the court, which was supposed to be held from May 7 to June 6, citing COVID-19 pandemic as the reason.

All advocate associations have given representation that they are not against the cancellation of vacation but the manner in which it was cancelled.
“This order has been passed without taking the Bar Association into consultation” said President of South Goa Advocates’ Association Adv Antonio Clovis da Costa.
“While it is confirmed that Goa borders with Maharashtra and Karnataka being porous, this decision to cancel the vacation seems to have been taken in haste,” said Antonio.
“The Supreme Court, which may have taken all the measures, has experienced positive cases and several have been in quarantine. If SC is not safe then how will courts in Goa be secure,” he asked.
Antonio also underlined that the pendency of cases in Goa courts is much lesser compared to the courts across the country and the decision on vacation cancellation be reconsidered.
