PANJIM: Healthway Hospital has announced plans to establish a 210-bed, state-of-the-art, multi-specialty and super-specialty hospital at Kadamba plateau by 2015. It also intends to start a 45-bed Panjim-based hospital this month at the Bhandare hospital based in the city. 33 doctors from North Goa are coming together to set up this venture. The Panjim centre will mirror the same set of protocols and way of working that has been planned for the apex institution.
The hospital plans to approach healthcare in an integrated manner. Its foundations will rest of four pillars – clinical, research, academic and social. The spectrum of clinical services will extend from primary care to the treatment of complex and difficult cases with multiple complications thereby decreasing the need for Goans to go out seeking treatment. Besides the hospital will address clinical situations that don’t receive adequate attention such as chronic illnesses, lifestyle illnesses like diabetes, care of the elderly-geriatric medicine, sports and rehabilitative medicine. Cancer care will be a very important focus. The hospital hopes to be at the forefront of early detection and diagnosis of this dreaded disease. The hospital intends to contribute by research in the field of infectious & communicable diseases and renal failure. In order to train the next generation of doctors, the hospital intends to conduct various academic courses. HHPL has already tied up with ATLS India under the chairmanship of the Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) recognized by the American College of Surgeons to conduct ATLS (Acute Trauma Life Support) course in Goa. It is among the few select centers in the country to conduct this course (10th centre in India). Other courses intended to be started in the near future are ACLS (Acute Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Acute Life Support). There are plans to set up start DNB (Diplomate of National Board, New Delhi) courses in specialty and super-specialty branches besides a nursing school.
To ensure that no one is left out, Healthway Foundation is being set up to provide healthcare access to the people who need it the most and to ensure that no one is denied care irrespective of his financial means. Its sole aim is to cater to the poor and needy patients and to specifically off load cost of cancer treatment. The group is in touch with international trusts and foundations and many major universities both in India and abroad for this purpose.
