In a statement issued Wednesday evening, the party has demanded an unconditional apology from three senior BJP leaders for alleged misuse of money and violation of ethics of governance, and asked that it return over Rs 6 lakh spent on these ads.
“In June 2013, on the occasion of the BJP’s National Executive conclave in Goa, the BJP-led government had, in an attempt to impress its national leaders, issued front-page advertisements in the local newspapers. However, these advertisements violated basic ethics of governance as they were issued through the Department of Information & Publicity, even though the event was not a State function,” the statement reads.
Earlier, briefing the media, AAP demanded the removal of Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar for alleged corrupt practices.
AAP Ad-hoc Secretary Valmiki Naik said two of the party’s volunteers have petitioned the Panchayats department that Borkar be sacked from the post and his membership of the Sancoale panchayat be discontinued. In their petition, the two volunteers – Advocate Athnain Naik and activist-cum-social worker Narayan Naik – demanded action against the sarpanch for his alleged negligence in the duties, persistent corruption, abuse of power, and exercise of powers not vested in him under the Act.
“Despite being under investigation for many previous illegal actions, Borkar has continued his corrupt activities for personal gain and monetary benefit at the cost of and detriment of the people of Sancoale,” Naik said.
