The people of Goa are all furious over the water logging in the city, suburbs, villages and the sub-standard work of roads and the flyovers, the culverts moreover the smart city where crores of rupees are washed away by the incessant torrential rains.
While some people are being affected due to the strong wind as many of the roofing’s were blown away keeping the people on their feet.

The weather forecast hasn’t been a blessing and it is a matter of concern. Though the incessant rains had made up for the water deficit in Goa, yet, it is a matter of grave concern and ‘bhiepachi garaz vaddot asa’. For the brutal treatment given to Mother Nature and the Environment, yes, the rampant cutting of trees and hills, mountains laid to rest. The present situation is alarming and a call to hear the groaning of the nature to stop raping the Earth. Not to oversee the reports given by the ecologist Madhav Gadgil when Kerala was reeling under the floods.
Madhav Gadgil had said “the climate crisis and unsustainable land use will trigger bigger disasters on India’s west coast”. “Mindless construction in the Western Ghats and the Himalayas is worsening climate disasters”, he warned. We are seeing extremely destructive activities in the name of so-called development. Road projects cutting through hillsides are common along a road construction project leading to a gradual crumbling and weakening of the hills not only in Goa but Kerala is already bearing the brunt of it with endless landslides!
“There is a wide segment of experts and opinion makers who believe deforestation and change in land use patterns are the reasons for present day climate. They cite ecologist Madhav Gadgil’s studies on Western Ghats to validate their point.
Gadgil Committee report specifies that the present system of governance of the environment should be changed. It asked for a bottom to top approach (right from Gram sabhas) rather than a top to bottom approach. It also asked for decentralization and more powers to local authorities.

Serving humankind since time immemorial with its shade and cover, food and livelihood resources, trees play a vital role in sustaining life on the planet. planting festival of one week or even the month is celebrated.

The first ever national awakening to the necessity of planting trees and attempts at tree rehabilitation on a national scale came in July 1947, with a successful tree plantation drive in Delhi.
Cutting down Numberless trees for the present 6 or 8 lane road projects, the age old trees laid bare – Today, one cannot stand on the roadsides for there are no longer trees to cover us with their shade because, the authorities have not yet replaced them by planting news ones in their places. Will the Government listen to the Cry of Nature?
