District Collector Venancio Furtado on Saturday stopped all work on the toilet construction on grounds that the PWD has neither put up the mandatory board at the site, nor was the PWD supervisor present at the site as per the PWD norms.
The Collector’s action drew strong reaction from the Fatorda MLA, who slammed the administration for putting spokes in the toilet construction at the behest of his political rivals.
The incident occurred around noon when the contractor, who has been issued the work order arrived to clean up the area before officially commencing work on October 2.
Acting on a complaint, the Collector sent his Mamlatdar to Pajifond to verify the complaint and initiate necessary action. While Vijai insisted that work on the toilet was started with all necessary permissions and NOCs, the authorities questioned the absence of the mandatory board at the construction site and the PWD supervisor. “Work on the project has been stopped pending production of the documents. I understand that the public toilet work is being undertaken by a government agency,” he said.
