PANJIM: With no dog-mediated human rabies cases, the coastal State of Goa is been declared as a “Controlled Area” for rabies disease.

The State government via a notification issued on May 17, has declared whole of Goa as “Controlled Area” in respect of rabies disease.
The Mission Rabies had estimated that Goa will be declared free of the virus in humans by 2020 and in animals by 2023.
Dog-mediated human rabies has come down to zero from 2018 onwards, but rabies was still prevalent in animals to some extent.
The Mission Rabies has been engaged in ensuring vaccination and creating awareness about the disease.
