MARGAO: The members of ‘Goyant Kollso Naka’ on Thursday visited few MLAs of Salcete and requested them to persuade the government not to arbitrarily destroy their villages, besides wildlife sanctuary for the sake of double tracking of railways.
‘Goyant Kollso Naka’ met MLAs of Salcete taluka, which include Digambar Kamat, Cruz Silva, Venzy Viegas, Yuri Alemao, BJP MLA of Navelim constituency Ulhas Tuenkar and also Ganesh Gaonkar in these regard. They will be visiting more MLAs in the next couple of days, and submit their memorandum.

Speaking to media, Xavier Fernandes, co-convener of Goyant Kollso Naka said, “It is reported in the media that the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Goa along with other three elected representatives have recently met the railway authorities and asked them to continue work in the areas outside the wildlife sanctuary.”
He said hill cutting and construction work in the villages has started at a great pace since the announcement. There is a growing anger among locals caused some unrest in the community as it is completely contrary to logic and against public interest, said Fernandes.
“We want our MLAs to support the movement, which is aimed at protecting the environment. This project must be shelved. The double tracking project is a linear project, which means that unless the entire project is completed, any construction carried out is a waste of public funds,” said Fernandes.
MLAs, whom they met, have apparently assured them to take up the issue before the government.
