CHINCHINIM: Rossman Cruz Nagoa-Verna ousted Union of Chinchinim Villagers 6-5 via tie-breaker to move into the final of Union of Chinchinim Villagers 8-a-side inter-village football tournament played, at Our Lady of Hope ground, Chinchinim, on Thursday.
The hosts Union of Chinchinim Villagers began the match on a cautious note. However, in the 4th minute, Savio Fernandes of Rossman Cruz cross the ball from the left flank to Ajoy Satarkar, whose looping header was timely collected by the keeper of Union of Chinchinim Villagers David Rebello.
Savio pulled a trigger for Rossman Cruz from a distance in the 10th minute but this outcome didn’t yield any dividends.
It was Union of Chinchinim Villagers who took the lead in the 20th minute through Sunny Simoes as he headed home a cross from Denil Rebello’s corner kick.
After five minutes, Ryan Fernandes doubled the lead for Union of Chinchinim Villagers while Savio narrowed the margin for Rossman Cruz after converting a spot kick in the 30th minute. The score at half time was 2-1.
After the lemon break, in the 40th minute Savio scored the equaliser for Rossman Cruz making it 2-2. Stefen Satarkar netted the third for Rossman Cruz, putting his team ahead in the 50th minute.
Denil levelled terms for Union of Chinchinim Villagers in the dying minutes of second half. At full-time, the score was 3-3.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Benston Barretto, Savio Fernandes and Vijay Rego scored for Rossman Cruz, while Denil Rebello and Scanny Souza netted for Union of Chinchinim Villagers.
Rossman Cruz to meet Betalbatim SC in the final on Sunday.
