MARGAO: A delegation of National Fish workers Forum (NFF) that also represented Goa met Union Minister of Fisheries Parshottam Rupala along with Union Minister of Petroleum Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi and presented their various grievances.

They discussed the increase in wholesale price due to steep rise in diesel, petrol and kerosene prices in all coastal States, which has adversely impacted the fishing community of the country.
They pointed out that the cost of diesel in bulk has also increased up to Rs 20 to Rs 30, which is 30 per cent more expensive in retail outlet.
NFF General Secretary Olencio Simoes, who was part of the delegation, attended the NFF meeting in the national capital, where it was resolved to hold a “Machhimar Sangharsh Yatra” in all the coastal States with the objective to “save the oceans and livelihoods”.
The delegation was given assurances by the Union Ministers that the price of diesel should stabilise in the next few months and that the Centre will take steps to reduce the burden on the fishing community.
They also informed the Ministers that if the taxes are not reduced then the fishing community will be forced to come on the streets as they will not be able to afford expenses of a fishing trip given that there is a scarcity of fish in the ocean.
