PONDA: Former chief minister Ravi Naik has criticized Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) for parking its garbage trucks and vehicles adjacent to the hotel owned by his family in Ponda.
Claiming the move to be “politically motivated” Naik questioned how and why the council decided to use the place for parking which has been identified to set up PMC’s golden jubilee project.
“This is politically motivated as I feel there is no reason for the council to use the place next to the hotel. It will set a bad precedent as the hotel is frequented by tourists and there are various business establishments in the vicinity,” stated Naik. “It is interesting to note that Manohar Parrikar soon after he was sworn as the State’s chief minister had assured to keep Goa clean by effective garbage management. But in Ponda the situation is different as trucks filled with garbage are being kept adjacent to the hotel. I hope the chief minister will look into the matter,” he said.
“There is possibility of disease outbreak and it is high time that the chief minister question the PMC chief officer as to why and on whose directions the vehicles are kept here,” demanded Naik.
PMC sources informed that the place belongs to PMC and due to lack of space near PMC building, all PMC vehicles are kept at the site.
