MARGAO: Households and commercial establishments in the commercial capital have 15 days left to pay their house tax and other taxes before the civic body initiates recovery proceedings.
With outstanding arrears to the tune of over Rs five crore staring at the civic body, Margao Municipal Chief Officer Deepali Naik has threatened to issue warrant of distress or attachment if households or commercial establishments fail to pay within the prescribed deadline.
The Municipality has said that municipal inspectors and other civic officials will visit the premises to check licenses and other documents.
The CO said that most of the owners of the properties and residents putting up in the jurisdiction of the civic body have not paid their taxes and fees during the financial year.
Besides house tax and trade and occupation license fees, the Municipality has not received the rent on municipal properties and advertisement tax.
The Margao Municipality had been literally struggling to recover the huge arrears, which had piled up over the last few years with the civic administration blaming manpower shortage for the sorry state of affairs.
