Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar had opened the football ground in the presence of the Benaulim MLA, local sarpanch Leslie Dourado, panchas officials from Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs and the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) on October 21, amidst much fancare and celebrations.
A complaint to this effect has been lodged with the police by Nehru Stadium manager Gurudas Vernekar.
Police suspect that it may be a case of theft as a search of the area by police and locals failed to find the plaque. It was also suspected that the culprits may have destroyed the plaque by taking it elsewhere.
The police registered the offence of theft against unknown accused persons under section 379 IPC and HC Vithu Jalmi is investigating.
