BICHOLIM: BJP backed Dicholi Vikas Samiti on Monday swept the Bicholim Municipal Council elections by winning in 9 out of the 15 wards while an independent candidate also pledged his support to the panel.

Addressing a press conference, the Dicholi Vikas Samiti thanked all the voters and informed that they would work for the development of the town.
The former BMC chairman Satish Gaonkar also thanked the voters.
“In some wards, the Opposition used money and muscle power. They also tried to divert the mind of the public, but the voters elected the right candidates who are hard working,” said Gaonkar and added that during the next five years we would try to change the face of the town and with the help of government will develop Bicholim.
Riyaz Baig also spoke.
On Monday, the counting began early in the morning and the former BMC chairman and his wife Satish Gaonkar and Tanuja Gaonkar were declared winners.
In two wards there was close contest. In Ward No 3, BJP’s Archana Gaikwad lost by only eight votes against Sukhada Teli.
Similarly, in Ward No 6, Samir Vaigankar won by just five votes against Chaitanya Teli. There was shocking result in Ward No 8 wherein three-time elected councillor Ajit Birje had contested his wife lost against Aparna Fogeri.
Panel of Dr Chandrakant Shetye — Dicholi Vision made entry into Bicholim Municipal Council by wining one seat. Former MLA Naresh Sawal backed panel won three seats.
An independent candidate Nilesh Tople, who won from Ward No 5 pledged his support to BJP.
