Loot temple at Marcaim, flee with silver worship articles

PONDA: Emboldened by their success over the past month, thieves laid siege on the houses of Goa police PRO John Aguiar and Director of Transport Arun Dessai. However, luck favoured Aguiar but Dessai was not so fortunate.
Ponda Police said that the burglars broke into the bungalow belonging to Transport Director Arun Desai at Ganganagar-Curti between May 24 and 26 and decamped with silver items valued at about Rs 70,000. However, they were unsuccessful in robbing the house of Aguiar at Khadpaband-Ponda.
Burglars also broke open two bungalows at Ganganagar-Curti, Ponda, and a temple at Marcaim and decamped with goods worth Rs 1.70 lakh.
Police said the burglars also broke open the house belonging to Lingu Sawant at Ganganagar-Curti and stole silver worship articles and other ornaments worth Rs 80,000. The incident occurred on May 26 when he was out of his house for some work.
In another incident, burglars decamped with some material worth Rs 20,000 from a temple at Adan-Marcaim. Police said that Desai had gone out of station on May 24 and when he returned home on Monday morning, he noticed the main door was broken open and the silver items were found missing.
In his complaint, Aguiar stated that no valuables were found missing from his house and the family members are presently not residing in the house. Ponda Police is investigating
the cases.
Strike gold at Aquem

MARGAO: Thieves struck at Vidyanagar, Aquem, and looted gold ornaments and cash, all worth Rs 1,85,500, by breaking open an apartment of Vatika Cooperative Society.
Complainant, Nidhi Tullue, stated that the occupants of the flat had left on May 23 at 8.30 pm and returned on May 24 at 2 pm to find to their shock the front door lock broken and the house ransacked.
She said they discovered that the thieves had managed to lay their hands on gold ornaments, which included gold bangles and pair of earrings, worth Rs 1.83 lakh and cash Rs 2,500. Police have registered an offence of theft under sections 427, 454, 457, 380 of IPC. PSI Ajit R Umarye is investigating the case.
…and Dongorim, Navelim
MARGAO: In a major burglary last night, a house at Dongorim-Navelim was stripped of cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs five lakh.
It is suspected that the burglars effected entry into the house belonging to Sana Dias through the balcony.
The Margao police requisitioned the services of a police dog and finger print experts to get clues into the incident, but obtained none.
