Margao’s sewage treatment plant commissioning likely in August

The Goa Sewerage & Infrastructure Corporation is literally rushing ahead with the commissioning of the underground sewage line, connecting Margao’s densely populated South to the treatment plant, before the onset of monsoons.

The Corporation has also drawn up plans to commission the state-of-the-art 20 MLD sewage plant costing Rs 37 crore around July-August this year.
Corporation Managing Director Arvind Patil said the underground line has already been laid in the town’s southern areas – right from Housing Board, Vidyanagar, Aquem, Malbhat etc.
“The Commissioning has been delayed because of a small stretch of road digging near the ESI hospital. We have obtained the necessary permission from the District Collector for the road cutting work. Once the work is completed, the new line will be commissioned around April-May. We intend to connect the city households after the commissioning of the new line,” he said.
Replying to a question, Patil said that work on the underground line in the Gandhi market-Comba area, besides the Colmorod-Ratwado-Calconda section is being executed by JICA.
