VASCO: After a series of media reports on the giant security gap at Dabolim International Airport mainly due to the absence of door-frame metal detectors (DFMD) at the departure gates, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has finally installed DFMDs at both departures gates of the airport.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme jointly initiated by the CISF and Airport Authority of India at Dabolim airport on Wednesday evening, Deputy Commandant of CISF, Goa airport, Shankar Rao informed that the CISF manning Goa airport had recently procured 17 new DFMDs to ensure compulsorily screening of all passengers.
These DFMDs have been installed at all entrance points leading to the terminal building and to the apron side of Dabolim airport.
He said that the CISF personnel are equipped with ultra-modern gadgets to foil any bid to take banned objects inside the airport, but they had to upgrade the security under Standard Operating Procedure, and hence, they got the DFMDs sanctioned. All airline passengers will now pass through the DFMDs before entering the terminal building.
“It was a much -needed facility, which is now in place. Earlier, our staff used to randomly check passengers’ luggage. Now, with DFMDs at the departure gates, security at Dabolim airport has strengthened further,” Rao said.
Meanwhile, extending a hand to the State administration to maintain cleanliness at Baina Beach and to contribute towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the CISF Goa unit has adopted Baina Beach as well as the government-aided Mata Secondary School at Baina.
CISF volunteers will hold cleanliness drives at the beach and the school every fortnight, Rao told reporters.
“The ‘Adopt-A-Beach program’ has been receiving a very positive response in western countries. Such a program fosters feelings of pride and ownership as locals begin to care for their beach and it gives people of all ages the opportunity to learn about and actively participate in conserving coastal resources. Moving in the same direction, CISF has resolved and adopted Baina beach as well as a school near Baina. Henceforth, we will work together to create permanent solutions to Baina’s shoreline by maintaining cleanliness at the beach all the time,” said Rao.
