Interestingly, the overall foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) witnessed a 10.7 percent growth last month as against the same period in 2015. Bangladesh accounted for the highest share of tourist arrivals followed by USA and UK. The arrivals have fetched the country Rs 11,637 crore in foreign exchange earned through tourism in just one month.
As per the percentage share of FTAs in India, Delhi airport stood the highest at 29.12 percent followed by Mumbai airport (16.85 percent), Haridaspur land check post (9.77 percent), Chennai airport (7.82 percent), Bengaluru airport (6.66 percent), Kolkata airport (4.16 percent), Cochin airport (3.51 percent), Hyderabad airport (3.07 percent) and Dabolim airport (2.84 percent).
The Ghojadanga land check-post in West Bengal ranked 15th with 0.96 percent foreign arrivals recorded.
Tourism Ministry compiles the monthly estimates of FTAs on the basis of nationality and port-wise data received from Bureau of Immigration (BOI) and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs).
The top 15 source countries were Bangladesh, USA, UK, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, China, Australia, Germany, France, Canada, Russian Federation, Japan, Nepal, Singapore and Thailand.
