PANJIM: Goa’s COVID-19 caseload crossed the 18,000-mark on Tuesday with the largest single-day surge of 588 cases. The State’s previous highest jump was on August 13 that had recorded 570 coronavirus patients.
With the latest figures, the State’s confirmed case tally stands at 18,006 confirmed, of which 3962 are active.

The State has been reporting a spike in cases post the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The cases, which were at 139 on August 24, a day after Ganesh festival continued to see a surge touching 588 on Tuesday. On August 29, total 547 cases were reported while on August 25, the total positive cases were 523.
As per the bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the 3,762 samples tested, 588 were positive while 2,683 were negative. The report of 491 samples is awaited.
As such, the total samples tested for coronavirus crossed two-lakh mark (2,02,730). The day also saw 273 positive patients being cured.
Since January 29, 13,850 patients have recovered while there have been 194 deaths.
Two deaths were reported on Tuesday, including that of a 70-year-old man from Pernem admitted at Goa Medical College and Hospital and another similar aged man from Gogol-Margao, admitted in ESI hospital. Both had co-morbid conditions.
As many as 115 suspects are admitted in hospital isolation.
