VASCO: Hitting back on the recent revelation made by Nuvem MLA Wilfred (Babashan) D’Sa that he will not contest on BJP symbol for the ensuing 2022 Assembly elections, Goencho Ekvott, an anti-three linear project social group, slammed the MLA’s recent reactions and the action of abstaining from voting for the private members motion against the three linear projects during the Assembly session, which are likely to harm the Goa’s environment.
In a press statement issued by Creson Antao, voter of Nuvem Constituency and a convenor of Goencho Ekvott group, mentioned that “in a span of a few days the voters of Nuvem Constituency executed their Constitutional right to question their elected representative about his support which he had publicly expressed to the three environmental destructive mega projects through Goa and had abstained from voting for the private members motion against the three destructive linear projects through Goa at the recently concluded Assembly session.
“The MLA was very evasive and gave a vague excuse of being tied up with a Party Whip that was purportedly issued to the ruling party MLAs (though some of his colleagues gave other excuses),” Antao stated.
Further, the press statement stated that the Legislator from Nuvem Constituency should explain to the voters the meaning of a Party Whip and whether clinging on to his MLA post is more important than protecting the environment of the State of Goa, something that he is totally unfit to preside upon. This MLA should keep in mind that the voters will whip him out at the next Assembly elections with their right of voting.
“Interestingly, some panchas, who stood beside him, were more vocal then the MLA. It is evident that the thought process of this MLA is so minuscule that he is unable to comprehend the collateral damage that the double tracking project if commissioned will not only cause further misery to the local residents, but will also pollute the air and ground water resources, apart from the lack of sleep due to constant blaring of the horns all night long,” Antao further stated.
