MARGAO: City-based child activist, Auda Viegas on Thursday dashed off a letter to the police on the occasion of Chidlren’s Day, threatening to resort to Gandhigiri to demand up-gradation of the Women and Child Protection Unit Cell, South Goa.
Auda has warned that she would be forced to stage a dharna outside the district headquarters to demand a better deal for women and children from December 10 from 10 am till the women and child protection unit gets rejuvenated.
Addressing the media, she said the cell was functioning well when it was headed by a woman officer, who was assisted by around 2-3 women police till recently. “An officer is aware of the sections under which sensitive cases can be booked,” she said, while asserting that putting in place the required infrastructure in terms of police as well as equipment to upgrade the unit would go a long way in alleviating the problems and crimes against women and children in addition to crimes against children under the Juvenile Justice Act.TEAM HERALD
