PANJIM: Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has directed Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) to conduct a Rapid Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) for its proposed 5-star resort at Anjuna.
The project, on land owned by GTDC at Anjuna is pending since 2014. GTDC had approached GCZMA seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project.
GCZMA expert member’s who inspected the site observed that it falls between 200-500m of the CRZ area in Anjuna. The plot proposed for the hotel starts from the main road leading to the beach and traverses northwards towards the hillock.
“In the adjoining property lying between 0-200m already one GTDC project is under construction, which envisages construction of parking facility for vehicles. The 5-star accommodation blocks shall be constructed beyond the parking up to the bottom of hillock, i.e. outside the No Development Zone (NDZ) area and no sand dunes exist in the proposed area,” they observed.
After discussion and deliberation and in view of the above, the Authority noted that the built up area is more than 20,000 sq mts and decided to direct GTDC to submit an EIA report and NOC/Approval from the State Ground Water Authority in respect of basement floor.
The matter was examined in terms of the hotel policy. The authority noted that GTDC has not submitted a rapid EIA for the hotel project. The authority therefore decided that GTDC should conduct a rapid EIA and submit it.
