Child welfare infrastructure poor: HC

A Division Bench of the Bombay High Court at Goa today commented that Child Welfare Committee (CWC) infrastructure in Goa is in ‘sorry state of affairs’.
The court was reacting to a detailed report prepared by the principle District and Sessions Judge over the affairs of CWC.
The Division Bench was hearing the petition filed by an NGO, State Child Abuse Now (SCAN). The matter will be now heard in detail over the report on Thursday.
The High Court had converted a letter by SCAN into public interest litigation (PIL), which had cited the information available under Right to Information Act regarding State-run CWC.
The NGO had complained that children from other States were languishing in the Goa State custody for years without any inquiry or rehabilitation.
The State and the State appointed Child Welfare Committee (CWC) were made respondent to the said petition.
The letter was based on the information received from the State which showed that children were not repatriated to their native place despite having clear address given by the children.
The letter also highlighted the illegalities and irregularities committed by the CWC and the State.
