Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) Chairman and Priol MLA Deepak Dhavlikar has stated that he will request the State government to release funds to commission the newly built Kadamba buses.
It may be recalled that about 20 Kadamba buses, which were obtained under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Development Mission are lying idle due to unavailability of funds.
As per reports, about Rs 3.85 crore is awaited to commission these buses, which presently are at a private depot at Dhulapi near Banastarim Bridge.
“The buses are lying idle due to non-availability of funds from the Centre,” Priol MLA told Herald.
Dhavlikar said he will take up the issue with the transport minister and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and request them to release funds.
He further said later funds from the Centre can be diverted to the State government, once the State releases required funds to the KTC.
“I learnt about the issue through the media and I will surely look into it on priority basis,” assured Dhavlikar.
“These buses as given to understand are meant for metropolitan areas. Apparently, due to non-availability of funds from the Centre, they are with the dealer,” said Deepak Dhavlikar.
“Even though I have just taken over the Corporation, I will personally approach Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Transport Minister Sudin Dhavlikar and request them for funds. Once the Corporation receives funds from the Centre, it can be diverted to the State,” he added.
