PANJIM: Revolutionary Goans has appealed journalists to boycott press conferences or any events of Goa Forward Party (GFP) to protest its president Vijai Sardesai’s unruly behaviour towards a reporter last weekend.
At a press conference on Monday, the NGO called him ‘habitual offender’ in the wake of similar instances in the past including one against a government officer.
“Sardesai is filled with arrogance and attitude. The regional party, GFP came into existence with the slogan, “Goem, Goenkar, Goenkarponn!” and always claims to be fighting for rights and betterment of Goans. However, this is not the first time Sardesai is showing his arrogance openly towards people of Goa. He is habitual offender,” said a representative of the NGO.
The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) on Sunday condemned Sardesai’s jibe at journalist Harish Volvoikar, who had sought reply to a question on the ‘Person of Goa Origin’ (POGO) Bill, to the former minister.
“I’ve not come here to be cross examined like I am in the court. If you want to take down what I am saying, you take it down – otherwise you can go. I am not coming here to be cross examined,” was Sardesai’s reply to the query at a press briefing in the GFP office on Saturday. The GUJ has demanded an apology from Sardesai.
Revolutionary Goans has backed GUJ’s demand while it also appealed to journalists to boycott all press conferences and events of the regional party for at least six months.
