MARGAO: Marina English High School, Verna eked out Mount’s Mary’s High School, Chinchinim 1-0 to storm into the quarter-final of All-Goa U-15 Petlu’s Gold and Diamond Trophy inter-school football tournament organized by Petlu’s and Sons ,Varca at Varca ground, on Monday.
Both the teams started on a cautious note and the play was restricted to midfield. Midway through the opening sessions, both teams had an equal number of chances but their forwards muffed gilt edged scoring opportunities.
Crossing over, Marina HS showed better application and urgency and their forwards troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. The all important goal came soon after resumption when Godwin Banna slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
Stung by that setback, Mount Mary’s HS went all out but the rival defenders frustrated their attacks.
