PONDA: The strike by the protesting taxi operators protested was peaceful in Ponda taluka on Monday.
Around 60 taxi operators normally stationed at the Ponda bus stand, Dada Vaidya Chowk and opposite Hotel Menino, but none of them were seen at any of the spots during the day. “We may lose our livelihood if the government allows private agencies to ply taxis all across the State,” said Ponda Tourist Taxi Operators Secretary Krishna Naik. He hit out at some private operators from illegally conducting business and depriving them of their livelihood. “Instead of working for our welfare, the government is going against our interest for their selfish motives. We will not tolerate this,” said Naik.
