While it is important to conserve birds, it is equally necessary to know where to draw the line. Pigeons, for example, have become a nuisance in many urban areas.
In Panjim, pigeons seem to blissfully co-exist with people who feed them regularly. Proliferation of pigeons has become a matter of grave concern due to the extreme pulmonary health hazards that they pose to humans.
The kind humans seem unaware of the extreme pulmonary diseases that pigeon droppings can cause. Moreover, pigeons can be an invasive and aggressive species.
The state administration needs to take all necessary steps to reduce the number of pigeons with an intention to eliminate.
It is requested to launch an awareness campaign to educate residents about the extreme health risks associated with pigeons and to encourage the people to refrain from feeding the birds.
Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited urgently needs to effectively address the health issues arising out of pigeon nuisance and incorporate in the Smart City Project:-
a) Improvement of quality of Air in Panaji
b) Protection against health hazards and potential health outbreaks.
The accumulation of pigeon droppings in public spaces, residential areas, schools and commercial establishments is not only unsightly but also poses extreme health risks. Pigeon droppings are known to carry various diseases and the situation demands urgent attention to prevent any potential health outbreak.
Schools, Government and Private commercial establishments, residential colonies may kindly note the health hazards in utmost seriousness and may take mitigation most urgently/on priority.
The State Government may issue necessary public advisory/notification in this regard please.
