PANJIM: Director General of Police T N Mohan has said that the State is facing a serious threat of terror.
Congratulating his force for doing a commendable job despite the lack of infrastructure, he said, “We have many problems which are due to the financial constraints. We have problems in getting new vehicles and setting up other infrastructure, but despite that police officers have worked very well the in past year.”
He was addressing his force at the Police Raising Day parade on Tuesday.
Mohan also said the State faces problems in traffic management which has led to an increase in accidents.
Speaking on the sidelines of the function, he said crucial infrastructure such as vehicles, improving control room and police stations are pending due to the financial constraints.
The DGP awarded a rolling trophy and cash prizes to Panjim, Ponda and Curchorem stations for their meritorious performance. Special prizes were awarded to Bicholim and Canacona police stations and individual officers were presented with an insignia of excellence.
“Last year I have not heard of a single complaint against any police officer. The crime rate has gone down to 35 percent, whereas the detection rate has increased to 85 percent,” the DGP claimed.
The DGP announced health care and accident insurance schemes for the welfare of police officers. Under accident insurance schemes the police will get upto Rs 25 lakh in case of death with zero premium; while under health cover, they are entitled for cashless hospitalization upto Rs 3,00,000 for six members of the family with a premium of Rs 6,000 annually.
The DGP also announced a canteen facility for Goa Police personnel which the department has started at Altinho.
