PONDA: With the State government not sanctioning grants, the Ponda Carnival Festival Committee (PCFC) on Saturday decided to organise carnival float parade on March 1, at 4.30 pm.
Addressing the media persons, President Agostinho Fernandes said that Ponda locals started the carnival float parade in 2007 and later with support of Ponda former MLA Ravi Naik the government was providing grants for organising the festival every year. For the last two years, the festival has been affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

“This year, the government has decided to organise carnival at only four places namely Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa. The PCFC held a meeting of all the stakeholders on Friday and a committee was formed. The committee decided to organise the festival in public interest on March 1, at 4.30 pm without government support,” Fernandes said.
“The float parade will be start from Tisk-Ponda and will culminate at Ponda old bus stand. Floats from across the State are invited and requested to participate. Though there would be no prizes, the committee will provide transportation cost to participating float troupes,” he added.
