CANACONA: Hitting out at the BJP for describing the Ruby Residency tragedy as an ‘accident’, the Canacona Block Congress has wondered if the BJP had developed a soft corner for the builders.
“If the Ruby Residency Building collapse is an accident, then what was the need for the BJP government to arrest so many people and appoint an inquiry commission on the manmade disaster that took more than 31 lives of innocent humans? For reasons known to it, the BJP seems to have developed soft corner for the builders and that too after the court declared the accused builders as absconders,” said Canacona Congress Block Committee President Elvis Fernandes.
“Man made disasters due to carelessness and corrupt practices cannot be called accidents, as serious lapses on part of the administration and builders have come to the fore right from the day one of the tragedy.”
“What BJP State Executive Member Sarvanand Bhagat says now in the presence of Canacona Block President Mahesh Naik and others is a contradiction of his own government. Moreover, Bhagat should study the poor quality of material used in the construction and only then will he understand if it was an accident or a manmade disaster,” he said.
Insisting that they were not trying to politicize the issue by involving local MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, Fernandes said: “We are trying to highlight the point that the tragedy took place due to complete negligence.”
